More than 400 guests visited six resplendent historic homes in East Walnut Hills as part of Cincinnati Preservation Association’s annual “Upstairs, Downstairs” Historic House Tour on May 9th. On a lovely spring day, tourgoers enjoyed touring the historic neighborhood and admired the splendid architecture. The event was a great success as well, raising over $21,000 for CPA.
This event was planned by CPA’s House Tour Committee. Chaired by CPA Trustee Mary Piper, the committee includes Trustees Nancy Gollobin, Lynn Jacobs, Phillip Nuxhall, Margaret Valentine, Brandi Voss, Susan Haas and Alexandra Weldon, and volunteer Ina Loftspring.
CPA’s presenting sponsor for the tour was Gates of Eden Park Condominium & Townhouse Community (www.gatesofedenpark.com). House sponsors were Apollo Heating and Cooling (www.apollo-hvac.com), Barrington of Oakley (www.carespring.com), Grosvenor Brant, HHB Partners Realtors (www.hhbpartners.com), Lisa Sauer & Jon Moeller, and Zimmer Heating & Cooling (www.gozimmer.com). House Trends magazine produced the full-color tour brochure.
The homes on the tour included:
2766 Baker Place: the Georgian Revival brick residence of Charles Livingood, Mary Emery’s amanuensis;
1949 Madison Road: an American Arts & Crafts original with influences of Frank Lloyd Wright and classicism;
5 ½ Beechcrest Lane: a cozy Cotswold Cottage perched on a hillside;
1945 Madison Road: an eclectic Colonial Revival design with half-round tower;
3 Beechcrest Lane: a brick-and-half-timbered Tudor Revival, built for three women;
6 Dexter Place:a fascinating Gothic Revival stone villa built in three stages.
Thank you to our dedicated volunteers!
More than 110 volunteers acted as docents for this year's tour. Without their assistance, this popular CPA event would not be possible. The Board of Trustees and staff extend our most sincere thank you to these dedicated preservationists.
